Valhalla Fire Department
Fire Squad
The Valhalla Fire Squad is the department's junior corp program which consists of 16 and 17 year old who are interested in volunteering in the fire service. Each company has a Fire Squad advisor who is responsible for educating the member. The Fire Squad trains on basic firefighting tasks which are then used on the scene of real emergencies. Members of the fire squad are able to ride on apparatus to alarms under the supervision of the department's line officers. Fire Squad members must stay outside of the building and may only enter once the fire is extinguished and the scene is deemed safe. While on the outside of the building Fire Squad members assist with moving hose, grabbing equipment, and other exterior operations. These members are issued gear and trained on real equipment. The goal of the Fire Squad program is to prepare members for the New York State Firefighter 1 curriculum. Once members complete the state course they are eligible to become interior firefighters on their 18th birthday. Many of our current members started in this program and worked their way up. If you are interested in joining fill out the information below and one of our recruitment committee members will respond back to you.
